LA LA LAND – REVIEW
“’La La Land’ is simply superb. It reminds us why we fell in love with the movies in the first place.”
‘Whiplash’ Writer/Director Damien Chazelle is back, taking us on an elaborate journey of fame and romance. Where do I start? The movie is simply breathtaking. The cast, the music, the sets, the cinematography… Everything within the screen just flourishes and amazes.
With the incredible duo that is Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, it is hard not to fall in love with their onscreen chemistry as it simply oozes romance. But not in your typical sense… No, this is the kinda romance that spawned in the early days of of cinema, a romance between not just the characters within the film, but with the audience itself.
Gosling carries an old style charm that is so loveable and quirky that it is simply too hard to fault. Gosling’s brilliant performance soaks up the screen in what can certainly be seen as his ‘Bogart’ moment. Stone quickly pulls you in with her likeability that radiates throughout, drawing in an audience and sailing our entertainment at full mast. This pair simply stun and amaze, connecting the plot and making this film a surefire hit.
Now, yes ‘La La Land’ is a musical. But it’s not just any musical. If you were to watch one onscreen adapted musical or simply and original scripted screen performance. This is the one to watch. I have not been so drawn to a film in quite some time. ‘La La Land’ is simply superb. It reminds us why we fell in love with movies in the first place.
‘La La Land’ is definitely something else and well worth a watch. Although the musical genre may be an acquired taste, this is certainly worth the watch at least once. With the Awards season closely approaching, I have no doubt that this film will be making a rather large bid for the top prize. It is certainly something that we have not seen in a long, long time. Whilst cleverly playing homage to the greats, it has such an originality that is so refreshing and welcomed.
This is certainly my top movie of 2016. Go see it now!
